Conference location

ECCE 2009 will be held in 30 September - 2 October 2009 in Otaniemi in Helsinki metropolitan area, Finland. The conference venue Dipoli Conference Centre is located at the campus of Aalto University (formerly Helsinki University of Technology).

The campus is a popular visiting spot for travellers, especially for those interested in architecture. Many of the buildings at the campus, including the University main building, are designed by the renowned Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. Also VTT and many Finnish high technology companies have their headquarters in Otaniemi.

Internet access in Dipoli
In Dipoli there is a free WLAN Internet access, Aalto Open, for all Dipoli’s customers. Separate passwords are not needed because all computers have automatic access to Aalto Open. The network supports VPN and VoIP applications.

Traffic connections to Otaniemi

The conference site, Otaniemi, is located 7 kilometers from the centre of Helsinki. Otaniemi is easily accessible by public transport. It takes about 15 minutes by bus to Otaniemi from Helsinki city centre. From Helsinki-Vantaa Airport Otaniemi is about half an hour away.

The following buses take you to a stop close to Dipoli:

  • from Helsinki (Kamppi shopping centre, ground floor), numbers 102 (platform 41) and 103 (platform 42). Step out of the bus at stop “Alvar Aallon puisto”. (Route map)
  • from Helsinki Railway Station (Elielinaukio), numbers 194 and 195 (platform 25). Step out of the bus at stop “Kemisti”. (Route map)
  • from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport take bus number 615 to Helsinki Railway station (Elielinaukio platform 10), then take bus number 194 or 195 to Otaniemi.

Buses to Helsinki (102 and 103 to Kamppi; 194 and 195 to Elielinaukio) leave from bus stop “Dipoli” (timetable).

Public transport tickets
Single tickets are sold by bus drivers. Tell the driver that you need a regional ticket or just say that you are going to Otaniemi. A regional ticket costs 4 €. Single tickets are available also on ticket vending machines (e.g. at Kamppi shopping centre on the ground floor and at Helsinki-Vantaa aiport next to the bus stop (bus 615)).

The Tourist ticket provides unlimited travel for the duration of the ticket: one day (12 €), three days (24 €), or five days (36 €). Tourist tickets are available at ticket vending machines and become valid from the moment of purchase. For travelling to Otaniemi you need a regional ticket that entitles to travel in Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen and Vantaa. Every time you board a bus, show the ticket to the driver. If you are planning to stay in Helsinki area for the whole duration of the conference we recommend buying a regional tourist ticket for three or more days.
